Window Safety Awareness Week 2018

Renewal by Andersen  Promotes LookOut for Kids® for National Window Safety Week

COTTAGE GROVE, Minn. (April 1, 2018) – April 1-7 is National Window Safety Week and Renewal by Andersen is encouraging homeowners to familiarize themselves with ways to help prevent window-related accidents.

Says company president Paul Delahunt, “It’s spring, and people are itching to open their windows and let in some of that fresh air in. But as adults, we sometimes forget the dangers an open window can present to children. That’s why Renewal by Andersen is a proud supporter of Andersen’s Look Out For Kids® Program. It’s a fun, family-friendly way to help get some of those key window safety points out to everyone.”

As part of its LookOut For Kids® window safety program, Renewal by Andersen offers materials and tips to help educate consumers and caregivers on window safety.

The LookOut For Kids program offers some helpful dos and don’ts:

DO
• Close and lock windows and doors when not needed for ventilation
• Position beds and other furniture away from windows
• Consider installing window opening control devices or window guards*
• Make an emergency escape plan, and include a window as one of the escape routes

DON’T
• Leave young children unsupervised around open windows.
• Depend on insect screens to keep children from falling out of windows
• Paint, nail or seal windows shut. You must be able to easily open them for escape or rescue in the event of a fire in your home
• Forget about window and door safety when making repairs to your home

The LookOut for Kids program was established more than 20 years ago. Renewal by Andersen also offers window opening control devices (WOCD’s), which limit the window opening for safety while providing ventilation, and allowing for quick release for emergency escape and rescue.

*Select a window opening control device or window guard that complies with ASTM F2090
