When powerhouse designer, contractor, and TV host Matt Muenster was finally ready to tackle the renovation of his 1962, historic mid-century modern, Ralph Rappson-designed home in St. Paul, MN, he knew he wanted to get it right the first time.

As he said in a May 30 interview on Facebook, “Here’s the thing about this house—and I talk to people about this a lot, and I ask people on [my TV show] this a lot. It’s one of the questions I ask every homeowner I work with. ‘Is this your forever house’? I call it your Death House—playfully, of course. But this is the house I am going to live in forever. It’s my last house. This is my deal, forever. And you start making decisions a lot differently when you think about that. I'm making decisions like it's my last house. Nothing but the best.”

Muenster also knew he wanted to share the experience with his fans and followers on social media—and that he wanted to do it real-time, as it was happening.

Enter “Matt’s Crash Course.” Muenster is filming the entire indoor/outdoor kitchen remodel in a series of Facebook LIVE episodes. Viewers can tune in, see the progress, and ask questions of Matt and other industry experts involved in the work. And if they miss an episode? They can always search #MattsCrashCourse to catch up.

Recently, episode #110 (and #110B) featured the work of some of our talented Certified Master Installers (CMIs) as they replaced the aging, floor-to-ceiling windows in Muenster’s kitchen with a custom-crafted patio door provided by Renewal by Andersen.

The choice to go with Renewal by Andersen was a an easy one, says the affable TV host, not just because of the quality of the product, but for the people and the process, as well. “I chose [them] for a number of reasons,” he says. “They’re a [local] Minnesota company…that’s important to me. Quality [product]. Energy efficient. Durable.”

But the kicker for Muenster? His RbA install crew. “They do this better than anyone else, as far as I’m concerned. You can put in a really, really nice window or door…but if the installation is botched or not done professionally…you’re at the mercy of that. These guys are pros.”
