Energy Efficiency with Renewal by Andersen and ENERGY STAR®

Energy Star 2010 Partner of the YearThe U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of Energy (DOE) have named Andersen Corporation as 2011 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year award winner for the Product Manufacturer-Windows category for its family of brands, including Andersen Windows, Renewal by Andersen, Eagle Window and Door and Silver Line. The 2011 Partner of the Year Awards are given to manufacturers and retailers that successfully promote and deliver ENERGY STAR-qualified products, helping customers save money and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

We publish standard energy-efficiency performance ratings on all our products ratings that are consistently among the best in the industry. Homes with Renewal by Andersen® products can dramatically help reduce their heating and cooling costs. These guidelines are based on the heat gain and loss of each product in various regions of the country.

National Fenestration Rating Council
The National Fenestration Rating Council® (NFRC) is a non-profit organization that provides fair, accurate and credible energy performance ratings for windows and doors. The best way to compare energy efficient windows and patio doors is to look at their NFRC labels. NFRC certification and labeling is required to qualify for ENERGY STAR.

ENERGY STAR® - U.S.
ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Energy (DOE) that identifies and promotes energy efficient products in order to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. New ENERGY STAR qualified windows can help reduce your energy bill up to 15 percent. Estimated savings vary from region to region depending on current heating and cooling costs and are generally greatest where there are hot summers, cold winters or both. In addition, ENERGY STAR qualified windows and doors do more than just lower energy bills – they deliver more comfort, create less condensation, and protect your valuables from sun damage better than conventional clear-glass double-paned alternatives.
Many of our products meet the stringent energy efficiency guidelines set by the U.S. ENERGY STAR Windows Program Version 5.0.

ENERGY STAR® - Canada
ENERGY STAR - Canada is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Natural Resources Canada. ENERGY STAR - Canada is a voluntary arrangement between Natural Resources Canada's Office of Energy Efficiency and organizations that manufacture sell or promote products that meet the ENERGY STAR levels of energy performance.
ENERGY STAR® qualified products help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by meeting strict energy efficiency guidelines that are endorsed by the Government of Canada.

ENERGY STAR® - U.S.
The requirements for the U.S. ENERGY STAR Windows Program Version 5.0 are shown below. The product performance ratings for windows for U-Factor and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient vary depending on the climate zone. The product performance ratings for doors are the same across the United States and vary depending on the glazing percentage. For glass patio doors, the > ½-Lite criteria are used. To find the U.S. ENERGY STAR climate zone where you are located, click here: www.energystar.gov/index.cfm

ENERGY STAR
®
- Canada
The requirements for the ENERGY STAR Canada Program released in October 2010 are shown below. The product performance ratings for windows and doors vary by climate zone. A window or door must meet one of two compliance paths to qualify. ENERGY STAR Canada requires that in addition to a U-Factor and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) that a product also have an Energy Rating (ER) number. The ER number is calculated by combining a products U-Factor, SHGC and air infiltration rating into one number. The higher the number the more Canada ENERGY STAR zones the product is likely to qualify for. The Energy Rating (ER) value is calculated using a formula that balances a product's U-value with its potential solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC) and its airtightness. The ER scale was recently modified so that all products now have a rating of between 0 and about 50. (Under the previous rating scale, it was possible for a product to have a negative ER number.) The higher the ER number, the better the product's thermal performance. The ER number favors a higher product SHGC.

The ENERGY STAR Canada climate zones and required criteria are show below:
